Torna Trekking

This was my first trekking in Pune after I relocated to this city last month. DVCI Trekkers Club of which I am member decided to trek Torna Fort.

TORNA lies 65 kms from Pune station. TORNA gives a very beautiful view of some of the big and important forts around- like, Sinhagad, Rajgad and Raigad. Torna Fort also known as prachanda(huge) gad is a massive fort near pune.

In 1646, when Shivaji was 16, he launched his first military attack by capturing Torna fort, paving the way for the great empire. Many battles have been fought on this fort.

We started our day at 4.30am as we were suppose to gather at a common spot by 6.00. The bus that was suppose to take us till the base camp (a village) got delayed. After a 2 hours bus journey we reached Torna base camp at around 10.00am.

A small introduction & breakfast, we were ready to start our trekking. As we moved across the narrow ways, on the way up, the landscapes appeared more and more catchy. We could see Sinhagad at distance. The entire way was laden with flowers, wild flowers in perky colors, textures and sizes. We kept moving seeing our destination far above us. We encountered two rock patches on the way up, a little slippery, not bad during ascending, but the descend would really prove tougher on them.
